Featuring some of the most beautiful architecture in the city, Deer Park is a really wonderful neighbourhood. Nestled in the heart of Yonge and St. Clair, it offers a variety of housing, from beautifully old-fashioned Toronto apartments to graceful townhouses to grand and sweeping homes. While it’s an architectural pastiche, it’s a striking one.
Although Deer Park straddles Yonge Street, its beautiful stone fences, thick old-growth trees and ingenious cul-de-sacs preserve the neighbourhood’s tranquility. For nature-lovers and exercise enthusiasts alike, Deer Park offers a wealth of natural space, including David Balfour Park, the Vale of Avoca Ravine, and - though perhaps it might sound strange - St. Michael’s Cemetery, which offers a serene 10-acre space for long walks and reflection.
For younger up-and-comers, Yonge and St. Clair offers a range of shopping, nightlife opportunities and a wealth of power-lunch spots, from Thai to Italian - and the Fox and Fiddle’s double-rooftop patio is a neighborhood staple. Despite its growing trendiness, Deer Park is an excellent neighbourhood for family living and offers some of the best schools in the city, including Upper Canada College and Bishop Strachan for single-gender private schooling and Deer Park Junior and Senior Public schools are two strong public schooling options. Oriole Park is a perennial family favorite, providing a wading pool and tennis courts for hours of summertime fun. After the kids are in bed, parents can enjoy the stretch of romantic and intimate restaurants along Yonge like French favorite Didier.
