Panamania Toronto 2015

As you probably know, the Pan Am Games are about to take Toronto by storm in from July 10-26 (Pan Am) and August 7-15 (ParaPan Am). Here's what you need to know to do the Games in style.

If you want to attend the Games

There are still lots of tickets left for almost every single Pan Am Games event. Whether you want to cheer on Team Canada in their soccer matches or take in the beauty of gymnastics or synchronized swimming, you have a unique chance to take in some world-class sport this summer. See the official Pan Am Games website for details of sports, relays, tickets and more.

The transportation part of the Games might be the most difficult, but the organizers have tried to make it easier on attendees. All Pan Am Games tickets come with a free transit pass - and if you carpool, you can use the HOV lanes on the highway. TripLink have a useful journey planner you can use to plan your trip to the venue, and the official website for the Games has a useful section on transportation.

If you're not so into sports, but you still want to take in the excitement, there's a variety of PANAMANIA events happening throughout the city. PANAMANIA is a 35-day cultural and arts festival that will get the city into the spirit of the Games. Circus, theatre, comedy, dance and other events are planned for venues including Nathan Phillips Square and the Distillery District.

If you don't want to attend the Games

Have you checked Airbnb lately? Lots of people are putting their homes up for rent just for the duration of the Games as "Pan Am crash pads". If you're looking to go on vacation in July, this could be the perfect opportunity!

Many cottages are booked at this point, but Cottages in Canada still has quite a few within striking distance. Or maybe this is a time to cozy up to your most cottage-owning friends.

If you're in Toronto, though: see if you can work out flexible working arrangements, as the City has actually asked its citizens to work from home during the Games if they can. You just might be able to use the Games as an excuse to set up an "office" on your deck for a few weeks. Ahhhhh!
